This is about a collection of videos that is valuable for people that are
● teaching others to ride
● wanting to teach themselves to ride
● interested in how connection can translate to ridden work in a simple way
Many accomplished riders have participated in this structure and found that the fundamental ideas can be applied to their current riding, to create a more willing horse, and a more empathetic rider.

Horse communication

In this video I talk about understanding horses and communicating with them in a very simple way. It is the first and fundamental part of riding.

Taking a horse for a walk

Here we show how leading a horse around is the next step in learning to ride.
A basic truth is that doing something together is the way that relationships are built. The simple act of taking a horse for a walk allows students to make that first seed of relationship with the animal they will ride. It also prepares them mentally for what to expect from horse’s movement and communication abilities

Safety around a horse

This video discusses being safe around horses, but it is much more than that. Getting people confident enough to move around horses, even in the “dangerous” bits, is so good for making them feel relaxed and happy… and prepared for anything!

Legup and correct sitting

Having an independent seat is so important. Here we instill the beginnings of that during their first experience on a horse. We go through getting a good and easy leg up, to lead exercises to develop that seat, and good balance, before giving them the reins.

Basic riding skills

This video shows how we teach learners how tell their horses their plan from on their back….also known as steering…! We quickly move through basic direction work,  trot, and some fun, to have learners feel that they have accomplished heaps in their first ride, so they feel positive and ready for more!
